Black & White & a little Color
I love drawing on the surface of the clay, but as you’ll see I also like a simple smooth surface. This page contains 3 bodies of work: sgraffito, inlay designs, and cone 10 basic black & white.
Sgraffito Collection
Porcelain wheel-thrown forms, decorated with hand-drawn sgraffito designs of lines and not-so-planned patterns
Sgraffito (Italian "to scratch")
After a layer of underglaze has been applied to the leather-hard porcelain, lines are drawn, or scratched, through the underglaze, allowing the white of the porcelain to show through
Inlay
Porcelain, underglaze, glaze, cone 6 oxidation
Somewhat the reverse of sgraffito, this time the underglaze is inlaid into the clay, leaving a thin black line. (Sometimes I combine the two techniques)

Drawing with Dots
Porcelain, with an inlay technique of tiny blue dots or lines
2022 - Present
Basic Black & White

These pieces feel smooth and cool, like a river rock
