About
Dowd House Studios combines the artwork of Sam and Jenny Dowd. Trained in ceramics both are potters and sculptors. Sam finds inspiration in the quirky forms of nature while Jenny seeks to distill the complexities of society into lines and patterns.
Why the name Dowd House Studios? Well, the Dowd House is also a studio. Sam and Jenny live with their art and by making quirky pottery they hope to bring enjoyment to your everyday rituals.
Dream-come-true moments are displayed above; over the past few years Jenny has worked with several chefs to design custom dishware. It’s been a lesson in design and use, as well as magical to see handmade pottery in such beautiful action!
Sam and Jenny met in the ceramics studio at Kansas State University in 2000…
Many jobs, traveling for work, inevitable ups & downs, awesome art opportunities later and the pair continue to grow and push each other as artists. Dowd House Studios became official in 2011 while they lived and worked in Wyoming, the business had slowly been growing thanks to pottery orders and word of mouth in a small art-minded community. (You’ll find a few photos of that cramped garage studio on the site here and there.) With the studio bursting at the seams by 2021, Sam and Jenny moved to NW Arkansas to build a home studio, and enjoy a longer gardening season.
A perfect celebration for a 10 year old business! The studio is a dream come true, you can see all the behind-the-scenes photos on the Gallery page.
