Black & White
I love drawing on the surface of the clay, but as you’ll see I also like a simple smooth surface. This page contains 3 bodies of work: cone 10 basic black & white, sgraffito, and inlay designs.
Sgraffito Collection
Porcelain wheel-thrown forms, decorated with hand-drawn sgraffito designs of lines and not-so-planned patterns
Sgraffito (Italian "to scratch")
After a layer of underglaze has been applied to the leather-hard porcelain, lines are drawn, or scratched, through the underglaze, allowing the white of the porcelain to show through
Inlay
Porcelain, underglaze, glaze, cone 6 oxidation
Somewhat the reverse of sgraffito, this time the underglaze is inlaid into the clay, leaving a thin black line. (Sometimes I combine the two techniques though)
A variety of this work is available in Jackson, WY at Workshop
Basic Black & White
Porcelain, glaze, cone 10 reduction
These pieces feel smooth and cool, like a river rock
